Karly’s Great Grandmother’s Irish Sugar Cookies

Category   Desserts - Breads
Sub Category   None
Preptime   20min

Ingredients
2 cups flour
1 cup shortening (try butter Crisco sticks)
2 eggs
1 cup buttermilk
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder (check expiration date)
1 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp salt

Instructions
Start with 2 cups flour (batter will be sticky to touch, gradually add enough flour to roll out and use cookie cutters….this is not a heavy dough.
Grandma didn’t use recipes much, she memorized, so there are no directions. What I remember is that this is not a heavy dough like choc chip cookies, it is lighter and stickier, so flour our hands to handle and do not roll out, pat with hand, they are puffy and soft, cook 6 to 8 minutes or until barely see color on bottom or edges…don’t want them to brown.
