     Vetkoek Ground Meat

Ingredients
3 T of butter
1 pound ground beef (or turkey)
1 medium onion, peeled, and chopped
1/2 tsp ground turmeric
1 tsp ground coriander
1 tsp ground white pepper
4 whole cloves
1 bay leaf
2 large tomatoes, peeled and chopped
 
1 1/2 tsp salt
2 cups water
1/4 cup green tomato chutney (or any other tart fruit chutney)

Instructions
Melt the butter in a heavy pan over medium-high heat. Add ground meat and stir to separate any lumps. Cook the ground meat, stirring the whole time to keep it from sticking.
When the ground meat is a lovely deep-brown color, add the chopped onions and cook until soft.
Turn the heat down to medium and add the spices. Cook them with the meat and onions for a few minutes and then add the rest of the ingredients.
Simmer the mixture for about half an hour or until thick and delicious. Taste it and see if it needs a little more salt or maybe a squeeze of lemon juice.
