     Buttermilk syrup

1 cup sugar
1/2 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup unsalted butter
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp baking soda
Pinch of cinnamon (optional)
1/4 tsp maple extract gives traditional maple flavor

Combine first 3 ingredients and heat in medium saucepan. Cook until mixture boils and boil for one full minute. Remove from heat and add vanilla and baking soda. The mixture will foam and bubble. Pour over pancakes or waffles and enjoy.
Buttermilk- 1 c 2% or whole milk and 1 T lemon juice
Syrup will keep tightly covered in fridge for 2 weeks.
