Maple Inn Date and Walnut Scone

Category   Breakfast - Brunch
Sub Category   None
Servings   12
Preptime   30 min

Ingredients
2 cups flour
1/2 tsp salt
3 tbl sugar
2 tsp baking powder
1 stick butter
2/3 cup half and half
1 egg
1/2 cup chopped dates
1/2 cup walnuts roughly chopped

maple sugar

Instructions
Combine dry ingredients in food processor. Cut a stick of frozen butter into slivers, then process it with the dry ingredients in the food processor until butter is in small bits within the flour mixture. Move dry mixture into a large bowl and add dates and walnuts.
Whisk together cream and egg. Make a well in the dry ingredients and add the liquid to the dry (reserving about 1 tsp of egg/cream mixture for later). With a dinner fork, mix the dry and dry ingredients until it becomes a ragged dough. While still in the bowl, form the dough into a ball, folding no more than 3 times.
Press into an 8 inch disk and cut into a dozen equal pie-shaped slivers. Place onto a parchment-lined cookie sheet and brush with cream. Sprinkle maple sugar lightly on top.
Bake at 400F (205C) for 12 minutes.
Serving Suggestions
Serve with homemade jam, butter, or simply enjoy on its own.
