     Navy Bean and Ham Soup

1 16 oz pkg dried navy beans, soaked overnight, drained and rinsed
4 c water
2 c reduced sodium broth
1 c chopped onion
1/2 c chopped peeled carrot
1/1 chopped celery
1 garlic clove, minced
1 bay leaf
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 large, meaty ham bone

Place beans, water ,broth, onion, carrot, celery, garlic, bay leaf, and pepper in slow cookiner; stir to combine. Place ham bone in the center of mixture. Cover and cook on high for 6 hours or low for 8 to 10 hours until beans are tender. Remove ham bone and any gristle. Return ham meat to soup.
