4 squares unsweetened chocolate
2 sticks butter or margarine
4 eggs 2 cups sugar
¼ teaspoon salt
1 cup sifted flour
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup chopped nuts, optional
Melt chocolate with butter in saucepan. Cool. Beat eggs well, gradually adding sugar until mixture is fluffy and thick, about 10 minutes. Stir in vanilla and chocolate mixture, then fold in flour, salt and nuts, just until blended. Pour into greased and floured 9x13 inch baking pan. Bake 30 minutes at 350 degrees. Frost if desired.
Frosting:
1 stick butter or margarine
½ cup cocoa
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 cups powdered sugar
Milk
Melt butter and add cocoa. Boil one minute or until smooth. Add vanilla. Alternately add milk and powdered sugar until frosting is of desired consistency.
