1-1/2 teaspoons salt and 1-1/2 teaspoons baking soda
4 cups chocolate chips and 2 cups chopped nuts (opt)

FOR HALF RECIPE
1/2 lb butter (1 stick)
1 cup dark brown sugar
3/4 cup sugar
1 tablespoon vanilla
2 eggs
3 cups flour
3/4 teaspoon salt and 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
2 cups chocolate chips and 1 cup chopped nuts (opt)
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
CREAM together well butter and brown sugar.
ADD sugar, vanilla and eggs to creamed mixture and beat for 4 minutes.
Add flour, salt and soda to creamed mixture, mix well.
Stir in chocolate chips and nuts. For large cookies use slightly less than 1/4 cup dough per cookie. Flatten dough slightly to above 1/4" thickness. Bake on cookie sheet lined with waxed or parchment paper. Use new paper for each batch.
Bake at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes. The cookies WILL NOT look done but take them out now if you want them soft.
