All-American BBQ Sauce

Category   Sauces
Sub Category   Grilling

Ingredients
-
2 tablespoons Unsalted butter
-
2 medium onions finely chopped
-
1/2 cup ketchup
-
6 tablespoons brown sugar
-
6 tablespoons worcestershire sauce
-
1/4 cup prepared steak sauce
-
2 tablespoons cider vinegar
-
1/8 teaspoon hot pepper sauce

Instructions
In medium-sized saucepan, heat butter over medium-low heat. Add onions and saute for 5 minutes, but do not allow them to brown. Stir in ketchup, sugar, Worcestershire sauce, steak sauce, vinegar, 1/2 cup water, and hot pepper sauce. Bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer, stirring occasionally, for 20 minutes. Meanwhile, wash and sterilize 2 pint jars. To sterilize jars, put in a large saucepan and fill pan with hot ( not boiling) water to 1 inch above the tops of the jars and boil 10 minutes; drain. Pour sauce into hot jars. Cap, cool, and freeze or refrigerate for 2 to 3 weeks. Makes 1.1/2 to 2 pints.
