In a large mixing bowl, cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Combine the flour, baking powder and salt; add to creamed mixture alternately with milk.
Pour the batter into a greased 8 x 4 x 2 in loaf pan. Bake at 350 for 55 to 60 min or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Place pan on a wire rack.
Combine the glaze ingredients; immediately pour over warmm bread. Cool completely before removing from pan.
