Ingredients
1 cup flour
dash of salt
1/2 cup oleo
3 tablespoons confectioner's sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup finely chopped nuts
jams, jellies or frostings
 

Instructions
Sift flour and salt onto wax paper; set aside. Cream oleo with confectioner's sugar until well blended in a medium sized bowl; stir in dry ingredients, half at a time, blending well to make a soft dough. Stir in nuts and vanilla. Chill overnight or several hours until firm enough to handle.
Roll dough, a teaspoonful at a time into balls between palms of hands. Place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets. Make a hollow in center of each with thumb.
Fill with about 1/2 teaspoon jelly or jam. For frosted thumbprints, bake unfilled and place a dab of frosting in center when cool.
Bake at 300 for 12 minutes.
