Cream butter and brown sugar; add egg, beating until light and fluffy. Mix flour with spices and sod; add to creamed mixture; mixing well. Cover; chill until firm, about 2 hours. On floured surface, roll dough to 1/8 inch thickness, cut into shapes with cookie cutters. Place on ungreased cookie sheet; bake at 350 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes or until lightly browned.
