Lightly oil skillet or griddle - preheat to medium heat.
Grind oats in blender until fine like flour. Combine ground oats, flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
In another bowl combine buttermilk, oil, egg, and sugar with an olectric mixer until smooth. Combine dry and wet ingredients. Add nuts and mix well with mixer.
Ladle 1/3 cup of batter onto skillet and cook 2-4 minutes until brown.
