     Mom's Toffee

Category   Desserts - Breads
Sub Category   None

Ingredients
1 cup walnuts, chopped
2 sticks butter
1 cup sugar
2 Tbs. water
1 cup chocolate chips

Instructions
Spread finely chopped nuts onto a pan lined with goil. Make the layer as thin, yet solidly packed, as possible. This is your base.
In a heavy saucepan, melt the butter with the sugar and water. When the mixture begins to boil, set the timer for 5 minutes and stir costantly while boiling hard. (If using a candy thermometer, boil until 285'.) After five minutes, the mixture should start to darken and no longer stick to the sides of the pan. Remove from the heat immediately and pour over the nut base, scrapping the pan.
Wait a few minutes, then sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly over the toffee. Sprinkle the leftover nuts from the edges of the pan over the chocolate. Let cool (not in the fridge).
Break and enjoy!
