In a heavy saucepan, melt the butter with the sugar and water. When the mixture begins to boil, set the timer for 5 minutes and stir costantly while boiling hard. (If using a candy thermometer, boil until 285'.)
After five minutes, the mixture should start to darken and no longer stick to the sides of the pan. Remove from the heat immediately and pour over the nut base, scrapping the pan.
