Bring pineapple (w/ juice) to a boil -- add jello and stir until dissolved. Remove from heat & cool slightly, then add buttermilk. Chill until partially set (30-50min in fridge). fold in whipped topping and nuts. Pour into lightly oiled jello mold (or a 9x13 pan, or a large serving bowl). Chill overnight (or for several hours).
