In a saucepan bring pineapple to boil. Remove from heat, add jello and stir until dissolved. Add buttermilk and mix well. Cool to room temperature. Fold in whipped topping. Pour into 11X7X2 lightly sprayed (Pam) refrigerator dish. Chill overnight. Cut into squares.
This may also be used as a light dessert, served with cookies or cake and put a dab of whipped topping on top. Works well with other flavors of jello. Could be used in individual molds.
