     Grandma's Date Roll Cookies

Ingredients
1 cup shortening
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon brown sugar
1 cup sugar
3 eggs
4 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
 
Filling-
1 pound dates
1 cup water
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
Instructions
Dough- Mix well and roll out to 1/4 inch thickness. Spread with filling.
Filling- Cook until thick. Cool. Spread on dough.
Roll like a jelly roll. Slice or freeze in aluminum foil and then slice for cookies.
Bake in 375 degree oven.
