In a large saucepan, over medium-high heat, saute onions in olive oil until golden brown. Add crushed tomatoes, water, tomatoe paste, basil, garlic, salt and pepper, and any other seasoning desired.
Let the sauce come to a boil, then lower heat to low and stir occassionally until sauce has reached desired thickness, about 1 1/2 hours.
