     Old-Fashioned Biscuits

Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
2.5 t baking powder
1/2 t baking soda
1/4 t salt
1 T sugar
1/2 cup butter, margarine or shortening
3/4 cup buttermilk
 

Instructions
Mix flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and sugar in mixing bowl.
Cut in butter or shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
With fork, stir in buttermilk to make a soft dough. Turn out onto lightly floured board and knead about 10 times to form a smooth ball. Do not overknead or biscuits will not be tender.
Roll out to a 6x6-inch square. Placeo n ungreased baking sheet. With knife, cut dough into 12 portions. Do not separate; leave bicuits in a square. Bake at 400 until golden, about 15 min.
