Original Nestle Toll House Chocolate Chip Cookies

Category   Breakfast - Brunch
Sub Category   None
Servings   5 dozen

2 1/4 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1 cup (2 sticks) of butter, softened
3/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup brown sugar (packed)
1 tsp vanilla
2 large eggs
2 cups Nestle Toll House Semi-Sweet Chocolate Morsels
1 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
combine flour, baking soda and salt in small bowl. Beat butter, sugar, brown sugar and vanilla in large mixer until creamy. Add eggs, one by one being well after each addition. Gradually beat in flour mixture. Stir in chocolate chips and nuts. Drop by rounded tablespoon on to ungreased baking sheets.
Bake for 9-11 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on baking sheets for 2 minutes, remove to wire racks and cool completely.
Amy's notes- I do not always soften the butter. As long as it is not really hard, it's okay. I bake my cookies for about 6-7 minutes and then switch the pans on the racks in the oven and bake for another couple minutes. This evens out the cooking. I do not use wire racks, I put the cookies on paper towels until mostly cool, but still sort of warm. They go right into a tightly sealed container. If they are too hot, they will stick together, but if they are just slightly warm, they will stay soft and chewy with melted chocolate chips! Most of the time I do not use nuts, but if I do, I use walnuts.
