     World's Best Lasagna

Ingredients
1 lb italian sausage
1 lb ground beef
2 cloves crushed garlic
1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
2 (6 oz) cans tomato paste
2 (6.5 oz) cans tomato sauce
1/2 cup water
2 tbs sugar
1 1/2 tsp dried basil
 
1 tsp italian seasoning
1/2 tsp fennel seeds
1 tbs salt
1/4 tsp ground black pepper
2 tbs chopped fresh parsley
12 lasagna noodles
16 oz cottage cheese
3/4 pound shredded mozzarella
3/4 cup grated parmesan cheese

Instructions
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. In pan cook sausage, ground beef, and garlic over medium heat until well browned. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, and water. Season with sugar, basil, fennel, italian seasoning, salt, pepper, and parsley. Simmer, covered 30-45 minutes stirring occasionally.
Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to boil. Cook lasagna noodles for 8-10 minutes. Drain and rinse with cold water.
To assemble spread 1 1/2 cups sauce in the bottom of a 9x13 baking dish. Arrange noodles on top, then layer cottage cheese, mozzarella, and then parmesan. Repeat the layers until you have used everything. Cover with foil. To ensure that foil doesn't stick to cheese spray it with Pam.
Bake in preheated oven for 25 minutes. Remove foil, and bake an additional 25 minutes uncovered. Cool for 15 minutes before serving.
