     Red Velvet Cake

Ingredients
1 c shortning
1 1/4 c sugar
2 eggs
2 T cocoa
2 oz red food coloring
2 1/2 c plain flour
1 c buttermilk
1 t salt
1 1/2 t soda
 
1 T vanilla

Instructions
Cream shortning, sugar, eggs. Make a paste of cocoa and coloring and add to mixture. Mix salt and vanilla with buttermilk and add alternately with flour and other mixture.
DO NOT BEAT!
Bake at 350 degrees for 30 mins. Cool completely. Use Icing for Red Velvet Cake Recipe.
