     Butter Taffy

Ingredients
4 c sugar
3/4 c water
2/3 c butter
1/4 t cream of tarter
Vanilla
 

Instructions
Use vanilla and desired colorings. Put sugar, water, butter and cream of tarter together in a three quart sauce pan and cook to hard crack stage or 270 to 280 degrees on candy thermometer. Stir frequently during the last few minutes to prevent scorching.
Pour gently into buttered platter to cool. Do not scape pan. When cool enough to handle, divide into portions, color and flavor as desired.
Butter hands well and pull until candy is evenly colored and stiff. Pull into a roap about 1/2 inch in diameter and cut with buttered scissors into 1/2 inch lengths.
