Combine dry ingredients. Mix well.

Slowly add milk, stirring constantly.
Add well-beaten egg yolks.

Cook over a low heat, stirring constantly. Stir rapidly as it begins to thicken. Let boil 1 min.
Remove from heat. Stir in vanilla and margarine.

Meringue-
Put egg whites in a non-plastic bowl. Add cream of tartar. Beat until peaks form. Add sugar, part at a time. Beat until stiff peaks form.
Spread meringue on top of hot filling.
Bake at 350 for 10-15 min. (golden brown).
