     Herbed Beer Bread

3 cups self-rising flour
3 tbsp granulated sugar
1 tbsp dried Italian herbs, (or 1 tsp each oregano,
basil, thyme)
12 oz can beer (at room temp)
1/2 cup parmesan cheese, grated
1 tbsp shortening
3 tbsp cornmeal
2 tbsp soft butter or margarine.

In large miing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cheese and dried herbs. Mix well to combine. Stir in beer to produce a stiff batter. Preheat oven to 325F.
Grease loaf-pan with the shortening, and spinkle bottom and sides with the cornmeal. Turn batter into pan. Bake at 325 for about 65 minutes.
Brush baked loaf with softened butter, and sprinkle with additional cornmeal if desired.
Turn out out on cool on rack.
