Measure sifted flour, add baking powder,soda, salt, cloves and cinnamon and sift together three times.
Cream butter add sugars gradually and cream together until light and fluffy. Add eggs, beat thorougly after each addition.
Add flour alternately with buttermilk a small amount at a time, beating after each addition until smooth.
Pour batter into one 8 x 8 x 2 inch pans which have been lined on bottom with paper. Bake in moderate oven (375 degrees) for 20 to 25 minutes. Cool Spread Butter Cream Frosting beween layers and on sides of cake.
