Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix together flour and baking soda. Mix first 6 ingredients together in large mixing bowl. Gradually add flour, baking soda mixture and mix until smooth. Add red food coloring and mix thoroughly.
Pour into 3 greased and floured cake pans and bake at 350 degrees until done. Do not overcook.
Bake approximately 20 minutes.
Cream sugar, cream cheese, vanilla and milk together. Icing will not be stiff; ice each individual layer, then ice outside of cake. Sprinkle nuts on top.
I prefer to use pecans.
