It didn't have to be a special ocassion for my mother to cook one of my favorite desserts. However, tonight was a chilly afternoon and a perfect one to make some sweet and warm arroz con leche and mami had apparently read my thoughts. As I sat in my bed playing with my favorite doll, a pungent smell of cinammon penetrated my room and traveled through my nostrils. I quickly ran to the kitchen and there was my mother in her yellow-flowered apron mixing a big steamy pot. I tiptoed in front of the stove and there it was...what I had wished for; that simple detail that would fill any child with joy- homemade arroz con leche. As I stood there I slowly closed my eyes and inhaled the sweet smell. I could already feel the warm milk and tender rice tracing their journey down my throat. The next procedure will teach you how to make arroz con leche.

First, boil the water in a pot. While boiling add the cinammon sticks and the cup of rice. Leave the rice cooking until softened.
Then, when the rice is well cooked add the evaporated and condensed milk. Stir ocassionally and bring stove heat to medium low to prevent rice from burning.

Later and after approximately 5 minutes remove pot from heat, let it cool, and serve. Finally, top it off with grinded cinammon if desired. Enjoy!
