Ingredients
10 TbS. (1 1/4 sticks) unsalted butter
1 1/4 cups sugar
3/4 cup plus 2 TBS unsweetened cocoa powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. vanilla
2 cold large eggs
1/2 cup all purpose flour
2/3 cups walnuts or pecans pieces (optional)

Instructions
position rack in the lower 1/3 of the oven& preheat to 325. Line the bottom of an (8 inch) baking pan with parchment paper leaving an overhang on two opposite sides.
Combine butter, sugar, cocoa and salt in a medium pan and set in a wide skillet of barely simmering water. Stir from time to time until butter is melted and the mixture is smooth and hot. Remove the bowl and set aside until the mixture is warm not hot.
Stir in the vanilla with a wooden spoon, add the eggs one at a time, stirring vigorously after each one. When the batter looks thick, shiny and well blended, add the flour and stir until combined, then beat vigorously for 40 strokes with a wooden spoon or spatula. Stir in nuts. Spread evenly in pan.
Bake until toothpick in center emerges slightly moist with batter. 20-25 minutes. Let cool completely on rack. Cut into 16 squares. I usually double this recipe an put into a 13x9 pan.
Serving Suggestions
Eat it with vanilla ice cream, or just plain
