     German apple cake

Ingredients
5 baking or cooking apples (granny's)
5 Tbs Sugar
2 Tea. cinnamon
3 cups unsifted flour
2 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 tea, salt
4 eggs
1 cup vegetable oil
2 tea. vanilla
 
1/3 cup orange juice
1 1/2 tea. baking powder and baking soda
Glaze ingredients-1 1/2 cups xxx sugar
2 Tbs. soft butter
1 1/2 tea. vanilla to 2 Tbs of water

Instructions
Grease and flour 10 inch tube pan. Preheat oven... to 350.... Peel apples , core and thinly slice. In bowl toss apple slices with 5 Tbs. sugar and 2 Tbs. cinnamon, set aside.... In a large bowl, mix together flour, sugar, salt, eggs, vanilla, orange juice, baking soda and powder.With an electric mixer, blend together on low speed for 1 minute; clean down the sides of bowl with spatula. Increase speed to medium and blend for 3 minutes. You will have a very thick dough.
Fill prepared pan with alternating layers of batter and apples. making a total of 3 batter layers, and 2 apple layers. Start and finish with batter layer.
Bake for 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 hours or until done (350).Cool on rack 10 minutes, then remove from pan. Allow cake to cool completely on rack....Make a glaze- mix together xxx sugar, butter, vanilla and water until smooth. Drizzle on cool cake. yummy, worth the time.
