     Bavarian Apple Torte

Ingredients
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter softened
1/3 cup sugar
1/4 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 cup sifted all-purpose flour
1 package (8 oz) cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup sugar
1 egg, slightly beaten
1/2 tsp. vanilla
4 cups thinly sliced apples
 
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 cup sliced almonds
1/4 cup sugar

Instructions
Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Beat butter, the 1/3 cup sugar and the 1/4 tsp. vanilla in a medium size bowl with an electric mixer. Slowly stir in flour until mixture forms a soft dough. Press dough into bottom and pour 1 1/2 inches up the side of an ungreased 9 inch spring form pan.
Beat cream cheese and the 1/4 cup sugar in a medium size bowl with an electric mixer. Add egg & vanilla beating until smooth. Pour mixture into springform pan.
Combine apples, cinnamon and remaining sugar in a large bowl. Layer evenly over cream cheese mixture. Sprinkle almonds over top.
Bake in a very hot oven (450 degrees) for 10 minutes. Lower heat to hot (400 degrees) and bake for 25 minutes longer. Cool in pan on wire rack before removing side of pan. Serve at room temperature or chilled.
