In a 4 qt. pot, add butter and saust onions, carrots and celery for 6 to 8 mins. Add bacon and cook until crisp. Add potatoes, chicken broth and season with salt and pepper. Boil for 25 mins. until potatoes are tender. Add cream, cheese and chives. Bring to a rapid boil and stil. Seerve when soup thickens.
