     Cocoa Drop Cookies

Ingredients
1/2 cup soft shortening
1 cup sugar
1 egg
3/4 cup buttermilk or sour milk
1 t. vanilla
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 t. soda
1/2 t, salt
1/2 cup cocoa
 
1 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Instructions
Mix thoroughly shortening, sugar and egg. Stir in buttermilk and vanilla. Sift dry ingredients together and stir in. Add nuts. Chill 1 hour. Heat oven to 400 degrees. Drop with teaspoon 2 inches apart onto lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake 8 to 10 minutes. Cool. Frost with chocolate icing if desired.
To make sour milk- add 1 teaspoon vinegar per 1/4 cup milk.
