     Green Beans with Carmelized Red Onions

Ingredients
Salt and Ground black pepper
3 pounds green beans
1 1/2 pounds red onions, sliced
3 tablespoons butter or margarine
1 tablespoon fresh thyme, chopped
 

Instructions
Fill large bowl with ice to cool beans after cooking. Add beans to salted boiling water and cook for 4 minutes or until beans are tender-crisp. Transfer beans to ice water. Drain beans.
In skillet, combine onions margarine, thyme, 1 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/2 teaspoon pepper. Cook over medium-high heat 15 minutes or until onions start to brown, stirring occasionally. Reduce heat and cook 5-7 minutes longer or until onions turn dark brown.
Stir beans into onion mixture; heat throough, stirring frequently.
