     Vanilla Butter Frosting

Ingredients
3 C. Powdered sugar
1/3 C. Butter, softened
11/2 t. vanilla
About 2 T. milk
 

Instructions
Mix powdered sugar and butter. Stir in vanilla and milk; beat until frosting is smooth and of spreading consistency. Fills and frosts two 8 or 9 inch layers or frosts a 13x9 inch cake. Note- To fill and frost three 8-inch layers, use 4 1/2 C powdered sugar, 1/2 C butter, softened, 2 t. vanilla and about 3 T. milk.
Browned Butter Frosting- Heat butter over medium heat until delecate brown. Cherry Butter Frosting- Stir in 2T drained chopped maraschino cherries and 2 drops red food color. Lemon Butter Frosting- Omit vanilla and substitute lemon juice for the milk. Stir in 1/2 t. grated lemon peel. Maple-Nut Butter Frosting- Substitute 1/2 C maple-flavored syrup for hte vanilla and milk. Stir in 1/4 C. finely chopped nuts. Orange Butter Frosting- Omit vanilla and substitute orange juice for the milk. Stir in 2t. grated orange peel. Peanut Butter Frosting- Substitute peanut butter for the butter and increase milk to 1/4 to 1/3 C. Pineapple Butter Frosting- Omit vanilla and milk. Stir in 1/3 C. well-drained crushed pineapple.
