     Red Velvet Cake

Ingredients
1 c. milk
5 tbs. flour
1/2 c. shortening
1 1/2c. sugar
2 eggs
1/4 c. red food coloring
2 tbs. cocoa
1 c. buttermilk
1 teas. vanilla
 
1 tbs. vinegar
1 teas. baking soda
2 1/2 c. flour
1 teas. salt
FROSTING-
1 c. butter
1 c. confectioners sugar
1 teas. vanilla

Instructions
Cook milk and flour until thick - cool in refrigerator. Save for frosting.
Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs and beat for 1 minute. Blend food coloring and cocoa and add to shortening mixture. Add salt. Blend together buttermilk, vanilla, vinegar and baking soda and add to shortening mixture alternately with flour. Blend after each addition.
Bake in 2 9 inch round pans at 350 for 25 to 30 minutes. Cut each layer in half horizontally to make four thin layers.
FROSTING- Mix butter, sugar and vanilla until creamy. Add flour and milk mixture from the refrigerator. Frost the cake. Store in the refrigerator.
