Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Butter 13x9-inch pan. With an electric mixer, beat butter at medium until fluffy, 3-5 minutes. Gradually add sugar until well combined. Set aside.
Combine flour, baking soda and spices, add to butter a little at a time, alternating with cider mixing well, beginning and ending with dry ingredients.
Pour into pan and bake for 35-45 minutes. Let cake cool and ice with Hard Sauce.
Hard Sauce - 1 cup unsalted butter, 1 lb confectioners' sugar, 2 tbsp rum. With an electric mixer beat butter on medium until very fluffy, at least 7 minutes. Gradually add confectioners' sugar, beating well. Beat in rum and rest of confectioners' sugar.
