Mix sugar, milk, chocolate, salt and corn syrup in a pan. Stir over medium heat. Cook until a little dropped in cold water forms a soft ball. Stir occasionally. Remove from heat. Add buter. Cool to warm without stirring. Add vanilla. beat until thick. Pour into buttered square pan.
