Place raw onion, garlic, salt, pepper, short ribs in crock. My 2 1/2 is big enough. Rinse beans and add to crock. Cover with water and cook all night or about 12 hours until meat falls off bone.
Remove the ribs - let cool and take the ribs off bone and replace the meat back in crock. Add BBQ sauce - turn off crock let stand for a few. Add pasta if you are using just before serving. Good thick harty soup for a cold night. Garnish with fresh chives...
Serve with cornbread...
