Preheat oven 350. Cream butter and sugar. Add egg and vanilla. Mix well. Stir in flour gradually, add nuts.
Bake in 9 inch square pan generously greased, especially on edge. Spread half dough on bottom of pan.
Spread jam on top. Then spread other half of dough over the jam. Bake 40-60 minutes, checking after 40 minutes, every 5 or 10 minutes until well browned. Sift powdered sugar over surface when cooled (Preferably 24 hrs.) Cut with sharp knife (6 rows each).
