Wash pumpkin. Cut in half with pumpkin carving knife using a sawing motion. Scoop out seeds & stringy stuff with ice cream scoop.
Remove the stem and put pumpkin into a microwaveable bowl. I use a large casserole dish with a lid. You may need to cut the pumpkin into quarters to make it fit. Just remember the fewer the pieces the easier it is. Put a couple of inches of water in the bowl, cover & microwave for 15 minutes on high. Check pumpkin and see if its soft, if not continue cooking in smaller 5 10 minute increments until pumpkin is soft enough to scoop out. This usually takes about 20 30 minutes total.
