     Devil Food Cake

1/2 cup shortening
1 3/4 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla
3 eggs separated
2 1/2 cup sifted cake flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1 1/3 cup cold water
-Butter Cream Frosting-
tsp butter
1/3 cup milk
1/3 cup cocoa
1 tsp vanilla
2 2/3 cup powdered sugar

Cream shortening and 1 cup of the sugar till light. Add vanilla and egg yolks, one at a time, beating well after each. Sift together dry ingredients, dd to creamed mixture alternately with cold water, beating till stiff peaks form. Gradually add 3/4 cup sugar, beat till stiff peaks form. Fold into batter, blendwell. Bake in 2 greased and lightly floured 9 X 1 1/2 inch round baking pan at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes.
-Frosting- In a mixing bowl, cream butter, beat in sugar and vanilla. Add milk until frosting reaches desired consistency.
