     Butterscotch Cake

Ingredients
1/2 cup butter
1 cup lightly packed brown sugar
1 egg
2 cups flour
3 tsp baking powder
1/2 cup milk
BUTTERSCOTCH FROSTING
3/4 cup lightly packed brown sugar
 
2 tbsp milk
Pinch of salt
2 tbsp butter
1/2 cup confectioner's sugar
Chopped browned almonds

Instructions
Preheat oven to 375. Great 8 inch layer pan. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in egg. Fold in flour and baking powder alternatively with milk. Turn into prepared pan. Bake 40 to 45 minutes. Turn onto cooling rack. When cold top with Butterscotch Frosting.
Make frosting. Put brown sugar, milk, salt and butter into pan; stir over low heat until mixture boils. Cook steadily without stirring, 5 minutes. Remove from stove. While still just warm beat in confectioners' sugar. Add extra, if necessary, to give spreading consistency.
Spread almonds on baking sheet; brown lightly under broiler. Watch carefully. Arrange almonds around edge of frosted cake.
