     Grandma's Gingerbread Boys

1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup brown sugar
/2 cup molasses
1/2 cup buttermilk or sour milk (2 tbsp vinegar to 1 cup milk)
1/2 tsp vinegar
3 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp ginger
2 tsp. cinnamon

Cream shortening, adding sugar gradually. Cream thoroughly. Blend in molasses.
Sift 1 1/4 cups flour, baking soda, spices and salt and stir into molasses mixture. Add vinegar and remaining 2 1/4 cups flour alternating with buttermilk.
Chill dough. Roll out to 1/2 inch thick on a lightly floured surface. Dip cookie cutter in flour each time before using it. Press firmly and evenly into the dough.
Place cookies on a cookie sheet. Bake for 10-15 minutes at 375. Remove and move to rack to cool.
