1 c (2 sticks) margarine or butter, softened
1 3/4 c all-purpose flour
1 1/4 c firmly packed brown sugar
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 c granulated sugar
1/2 tsp salt (optional)
2 eggs
2 1/2 c Quick (or 3 c Old Fashioned) Quaker oats, uncooked
2 tbsp milk
1 12 oz pkg (2 c) semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 c chopped nuts (optional)

Heat oven to 375. Beat together margarine & sugars until creamy. Add eggs, milk & vanilla; beat well. Add combined flour, baking soda & salt; mix well. Stir in oats, chocolate chips & nuts; mix well. Drop by rounded tablespoons onto ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 9-10 minutes for a chewy cookie or 12-13 minutes for a crisp cookie. Cool1 minute on cookie sheet; remove to wire rack. Cool completely. Makes about 4 1/2 dozen. For easy bar cookies- press dough onto bottom of ungreased 13 x 9 baking pan. Bake 30-35 minutes or until light golden brown. Cool completely; cut into bars. Store tightly covered. Makes 32 bars.
