6 cups pureed cooked or canned pumpkin
3 cups sugar
2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice
1/8 teaspoon salt

Cook over medium flame, stirring constantly to prevent sticking. Test for thickness by pouring small amount on cold plate. Cook until no rim of liquid separated around edge of butter on plate. Pour hot butter into sterilized jars. Close jars and process in boiling water bath 5 minutes.
