Combine 1 cup flour, sugar, salt and yeast together. Heat 1 cup
water until warm. Add to flour and yeast. Beat with mixer for 3
minutes. Stir the additional flour into the mixture and knead.
Place in greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap and towel. Allow to
rise for 45 minutes. Divide dough, roll, and form pretzels. Heat 6
cups water and baking soda to a boil, place pretzels in boiling
water for 15 seconds a side. Put on cookie sheet, and sprinkle wit
salt or sugar, if desired. Bake for 8 minutes at 400. Pour melted
butter on top of pretzels and bake for 2 more minutes, or until
golden brown.
