     Pfefferneuse

Ingredients
1 c. butter or margarine
4 c. brown sugar, packed
4 eggs
1 t. salt
1 t. cinnamon
1 t. nutmeg
1 t. mace (the spice kind)
1 t. ground cloves
1 t. anise seed
 
3 c. nuts, finely chopped
1 T. soda in a small amount of hot water
6 cups flour

Instructions
Mix all ingredients except flour by hand or by mixer. Gradually add flour. Stir to a dough consistency. Roll out and cut into strips about 1" in diameter. Chill thoroughly. Slice very thin; place on cookie sheet. Bake at 325 degrees about 7 minutes. Do not overbake.
Can be frozen.
