In large bowl, cream butter, sugar and vanilla until smooth. Beat in eggs one at a time, mixing well after each one. Combine flour, baking powder and salt. Stir into sugar mixture. Cover dough and refrigerate overnight. Preheat oven to 375. Grease cookie sheets. On floured surface, roll dough to 1/2 inch thick. Cut. Place two inches apart on cookie sheet. Bake 8-10 minutes. Allow to cool on sheet for five minutes and then transfer to wire rack to cool.
