melt caramel candies and heavy cream in a small saucepan over medium heat. Once caramel is melted stir in 1/2 tsp salt.
cream butter until light and fluffy. Genlty add half of the powdered sugar to the butter and beat until fluffy. Then drizzle in caramel while the mixer is on low.
Add remaining 2 cups of powdered sugar and beat until well combined.
Pipe frosting onto cupcakes/cake.
