Dissolve yeast in 1/2 c. lukewarm water. Add milk, sugar, salt, eggs shortening and 1 1/4 c. flour. Mix until smooth. Add enough flour to make an easily handled ball of dough. turn into a large lightly greased bowl. Cover and let rise in a warm area for 1 1/2 hours or until dough has double in size. Punch down. Let rise again for 30 minutes. Form into rolls. Place into greased pan. Bake at 400 degrees for 15-20 minutes.

Variation 2- Roll dough out to a rectangle. Brush top with butter and sprinkle cinnamon and sugar. Roll into a tube-like roll. Using thread, cut roll into approx. 1 inch thick slices. Put into lightly greased pan and bake at 400 until brown. Mix confectioners sugar with a few drops of milk. After rolls are taken out of the oven, drizzle glaze on the tops.
